PORTO CARRAS
The tourist activity of Technical Olympic Group is represented by the historic resort Porto Carras. Covering 17,630,000 sq.m. in Sithonia, in the green-covered area of Halkidiki, Porto Carras is the reference point of modern tourist life in Greece.
It is one of the biggest and best-equipped resorts in Europe that attracts visitors of both special and general tourism, offering high quality services as well as the option of other activities. In 1999, Technical Olympic Group acquired the historical resort built by Yiannis Carras and in 2001 it began an extensive and ambitious investment plan to complete the resort’s upgrade. From the beginning, the goal was to promote the resort and the total area on which the facilities are located, altogether forming a unique model area for tourist development.
Currently, Porto Carras Grand Resort is one of the most popular European tourist destinations promoting its history, upgrading the Sithonia area, while at the same time contributing in the development of the tourist and cultural image of Greece, in general. The resort includes:
- Four hotels
- Villa Galini
- the 5 star Meliton
- the 5 star Sithonia
- the 3 star Village Inn (renovation, extension and upgrade to a 5 star hotel)
- Conference centres
- A Casino
- A Yacht marina
- Centres of thalassotherapy and SPA
- An 18-hole golf course
- The Domaine Porto Carras
The resort has also sport facilities such as horseback riding and scuba diving services, tennis and basketball courts, football field, etc.
All four Porto Carras hotels, namely Villa Galini, Meliton, Sithonia and Village Inn, were part of the existing facilities that Technical Olympic Group acquired at the time it purchased the resort. Ever since, the Group has fully renovated the first three hotels and modernised all the facilities in order to meet the modern requirements for luxurious hotels in the case of Meliton and Sithonia, and to comply with the strictest safety standards. Village Inn hotel is in the process of renovation, extension and upgrade to a 5 star hotel.
Villa Galini is an impressive building, which was the residence of Yiannis Carras’ family, and is located in one of the most beautiful spots of the Porto Carras estate. Built with the architectural style of a Mt. Athos monastery, it has hosted some of the most important Greek and foreign personalities, like Melina Merkouri, Konstantinos Karamanlis, Salvador Dali, Rudolf Nureyev, Francois Mitterand and Valery Giscard D'Estaing. Today, Villa Galini is a desirable hotel destination for those who wish to stay here in one of the luxurious rooms or suites and feel like part of this unique place’s history.
The Conference Centre of Porto Carras includes 2 conference rooms with a total capacity of approximately 3,000 people, an open amphitheatre with a capacity of 800 people and six fully equipped state-of-the-art rooms for hosting several academic, social and other events.
The Casino Porto Carras is the first private casino in Greece and is located in the specially configured facilities of Sithonia hotel. The casino is made to resemble the American South, offering a wide range of entertainment choices, besides casino games.
The Porto Carras Marina is the largest private marina of Northern Greece, awarded with the Blue Flag (award granted by the Greek National Tourism Organisation to beaches that meet specific cleanness and organization criteria) each year, providing various services and benefits to its users.
The Thalassotherapy centres, one in each hotel, Meliton and Sithonia, are two state-of-the-art spa and thalassotherapy centres that offer therapeutic and beauty programmes. The well-trained spa staff and the excellent facilities constitute the centre of attraction for the hotel’s customers but for independent visitors as well.
The 18-hole golf course of Porto Carras is fully renovated and complies with international specifications. It covers an area of 770,000 sq.m., it is open throughout the year and offers five star services to golfers.
The vision we have for Porto Carras Grand Resort is to create a resort that will combine luxury hotel facilities and residences of the same level, which will constitute a unique standard in Greece and abroad. That is why special attention was paid to assure the quality of services provided in all areas and activities, to the continuous vigilance on safety issues and of course, to the total compliance with the Group’s environmental policy, operating all the facilities on the basis of saving power and respecting the environment.
Hosting the European Union Summit in June 2003 and the Forum of Heads of State of Western Balkan States, during the same period, was an acknowledgment of the Group’s efforts and investments in Porto Carras. Technical Olympic Group invested in Porto Carras foreseeing the business potential of Porto Carras Grand Resort. At the same time, it was a decision emotionally motivated that uplifted the historical Greek resort from a state of decadence, giving it a breath of fresh air and a second chance to flourish.
